First and foremost, when I was younger, I treated telemarketers like dirt. Now that I’m a telemarketer, I think karma has finally made its way back to me.
—One important thing I’ve learned so far is how interconnected everyone is. Everyone affects everyone. Allow me to explain.
~The company I work for raises money for local high schools’ extracurricular programs that taxes don’t pay for. That means these programs (music, athletic, etc) aren’t getting these funds from anywhere else other than private donations. The problem is the piss poor reception that we get from the people we call. All I keep hearing from the people I call is how they can’t afford to do any fundraisers right now; they just got laid off, their hours were cut, or maybe they’re 91 and living on a fixed income. And I’m not exaggerating when I say the majority of people who say no, do so because of financial struggles. So what I am supposed to understand is that these high schools are not getting enough funding for their extracurricular programs, and the parents and relative living in the school district are on too tight of a budget to contribute to the fundraiser. As a result, the schools are going to suffer, as will the students and, eventually, the town. Because no matter how hard anyone works, it’s never enough to have money left over to donate to your child’s schools. When are we going to say enough is enough and reject this economic system?
